Search Tips

Some ideas to help you with your search.

Be precise! First, think carefully about what you are looking for, and then think about words that describe what you are looking for.

Sometimes more is better. If you are getting too many results, try adding more words to narrow you search.

But then again, sometimes less gets you more! If you are searching on a lot of words with no results, try either reducing the number of words, or try switching from matching "all words" to "any word".

Also try using a root that other words stem from. For example, the term "bush" will pick up "bush, bushy, bushie and bushed" and so on.

Descriptive terms are really good to focus on what you want. Searching on "foot" will get you a large number of results, whereas searching on "football" will narrow down to only those results dealing with the sport.

Check your spelling. There is no spell checker in the search routine so if you've typed it wrong, I can't correct  it.

Capital Letters and punctuation are not necessary. So "Australian Bush" and "australian bush" are the same. But please remember to include spaces between the words as "australianbush" will probably not get any results.

Avoid commonly used words, such as "a", it", "and", "the", "by", "at", and "of". These will slow the search down and may hinder rather than help your search by confusing the search program.

Use simple words and not questions. Take all the fluff words out. So it you were going to ask "What is the Australian Slang for Diaper?", instead, just enter "diaper" and press search. Voila! Simple!

Synonyms are also good. If you get no results on one term, then think of other terms that might mean the same or similar and search on "any" of those terms. For example, other words for idiot are fool, mad, stupid, silly, well you get the idea. And no, Silly is not a synonym for me!

Generally, word order does not matter as all words will be used in the search depending on your other settings. However, searching for "Bush Food" and "Food Bush" may produce slightly differing results as there is a slightly different emphasis placed on words depending on their position. However, this is mainly used internally to give you a better result so don't worry about it too much.

This search program is tailored to the job in hand and so does not use Boolean terms. So words such as "and", "or", and "not" do not help so leave them out. Instead, choose all/any, word/phrase and like/exact options from the drop down menus.

Well, I hope this helps you find what you are looking for. However, if you still have no luck, then drop me a line and I will do my best to help you out.
